The first time I saw this saying I didn't really know what I was thinking. It's just a cool saying for a shirt you can wear at the gym, right? Well yeah, but it's also great motivation to get yourself moving on a regular basis. We don't have to be body builders, or marathon runners, or yogis, or anything extreme. However, we should be taking care of our bodies.
The hardest part about anything is choosing what to start, because ultimately you want to finish it! That's the goal. I recently chose to sign up for a half marathon (my 8th), but I hadn't been running or really anything up until the point of sign up. I decided I wanted to get my body back on track being happy and healthy, and this was my best course of action based on my physical strengths! I love running. I know, I know, I'm crazy. And even though I've run several before, I haven't been running this long distance in a very long while. So I found a training schedule!
I used HalHigdon.com, it's got GREAT training tips, plans, and other helpful things for half and full marathons as well as many other race lengths! I really like this site because it's a holistic view of the fitness world and it's balanced. We all know that's key.
You have to be consistent in following whatever training plan you choose so you do not injure yourself. It's also helpful if you're training to get better/faster results than before.
Your body performs SO much better when it has optimal nutrients and basic hydration levels. I'm not saying don't eat carbs or have some drinks on the weekend. In fact, I encourage it. It's important to be happy in your everyday life, so long as you have more "good" days than "cheat" days, I believe it's all going to be ok!
It's great to push towards the end result, that's what drives us usually. I think that we focus on the end result too much sometimes, though and that is hard on us mentally. About a month ago, and I remember this because it was such a forgotten feeling, I was looking forward to my 6 mile run all day! Then I ran it, it felt amazing during, and when I was done I felt amazing. I felt accomplished and I was so glad I had given myself that reward of challenging my body and pushing through to the next level.
My next challenge to myself will be to find another race shortly after. I had a lull after my first marathon because I had already run 7 half marathons and I just needed a break. But I didn't really want a break, I just needed to tone it down a bit. I challenge YOU to find something (and someone to do it with) that makes you step outside of your comfort zone. Whether it be a physical challenge, mental challenge, or even emotional challenge. We must continue to challenge our minds and bodies to keep growing throughout our lifelong journey.
I hope you enjoyed my throwback running pics! Results, adventures, and pictures of the upcoming race to be shared when completed!
Get your groove on while working out! It doesn't have to be all powerhouse 90's jams. I personally love country, pop, rap, and all things in between when I'm working out. The only music I don't particularly care for are current Top 40 hits. Just way too overplayed. Give them a few months though and I'm all over it. Here's my solid power 20 playlist. Enjoy!

I've always been a tea drinker. When I found green tea, everything in my life changed. Well, ok. Not everything. But I definitely saw many benefits. The biggest changes I saw were after incorporating green tea into my diet for three months at least twice a week. Let me share 7 of these wonderful things with you!
1. Weight loss
Green tea contains caffeine (even decaf contains a little bit). This will decrease moments in the day when you feel hungry. It also speeds up your metabolism. This will give you an extra boost so you'll be on your feet even more! Less work, more results? Seems like a no brainer to me.
2. Your skin will thank you.
With high levels of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory components your skin will glow and look even more youthful than the 20 something skin you have now. Studies have been done and it is believed that green tea helps to reverse and prevent signs of aging, such as wrinkles and sun damage.
3. Higher Energy, Less Caffeine
Green tea has less caffeine than coffee but enough to produce an alertness and preparedness to tackle the day. More energy and less jitters will make your work day even more productive than a red bull day could ever.
4. Breast Cancer Risk is Reduced
Being a woman, it's always good to think about gender specific illnesses and try to prevent them. Cancer is caused by uncontrolled growth of cells. Drinking green tea basically provides so many antioxidants that it is “oxidative damage control.” This damage control helps to put cells back in line and prevents cancerous cells from forming.
5. You'll want to smile all the time
The catechins also kill bacteria and inhibit viruses from taking a toll on your health. Studies have also shown that green tea prevents the formation of plaque on teeth and a lower risk of carrying bacteria in your mouth, and having less bacteria means better breath!
6. Strengthen Your Bones
There is a high fluoride content in green tea. It helps to keep bones (and teeth) strong. Drinking green tea daily will help to improve bone density.
7. Stop being sick and tired!
Polyphenols and flavonoids found in green tea help to improve your immune system and make your overall health stronger by fighting infections.
Bottom Line: If you want glowing skin, a healthy life now, and a healthy life in the future—DRINK GREEN TEA!
The journey for each is special because it is our own. Recently, I experienced the amazing energy that is Wanderlust. Wanderlust is hard to describe. Except, it's a mindful triathlon. Every portion of the event is dedicated to someone or something bigger than ourselves. It's larger than we can be because it's about finding our purpose.
The day begins with an "All Smiles" 5k, only running to warm up the body and rid ourselves of any negative energy before renewing our soul. "The most beautiful thing we can do for ourself and others is appreciate the moment we are in at any given time. It is always a challenge when the world pushes us in other directions. But, Wanderlust challenges you to reinvent the purpose of your being.
In every moment your strength or ability to push through the discomfort varies. However, in a race where it's a race against your own being, everyone comes in first. Every person is on a different timeline.
"Do not regret or deny your journey. It all had to be what it was in order for you to find your path." - Gurmukh
I stepped outside of my comfort zone going to Wanderlust. It's a place where you are provided with the opportunity to be completely open with your soul and that makes us vulnerable. That's scary. But I'll tell you something, it is beautiful. Not a single person was there outside of goodness. Every participant gave joy to each other because our spirits were allowed to be free. Renewal and refresh, two things every person left Wanderlust 108.
"When you find the balance between your curiosity and your ability to surrender to the journey, you will develop trust in life. That trust is key to the freedom you are searching for." - Matt Giordano
Some days I really just don't feel like doing anything. But something is better than nothing! On these days, I check out my favorite site, Blogilates. It's great because there are workouts, recipes, and cute workout accessories for purchase! I put three of my favorite (one is BRAND NEW) workouts below. Fast, challenging, and rewarding! Check them out! Cassey Ho has a very unique way of motivating her followers, myself included. Her monthly calendars provide FANTASTIC workouts if you need a schedule to follow, and as a personal testimony the beginning series helped me lose 3 pounds!
Probably the hardest part about working out is getting started. It's intimidating! Especially when the workout videos we watch have jacked people and it seems like the muscles have muscles. I have good news for you though: we're all starting at our own beginning. If a 10 minute walk is all you can manage or all you have time to do, then you make that 10 minute walk the best walk of your day! Keep doing that until you feel like you can add something else on! It's really about making yourself happy and making a lifestyle change. Fad diets may be successful short term, but ultimately it will not be sustainable for your body and you'll be starting further back than where you were initially.
Believe in yourself! You can do it. It's only as hard as the first step. Three days is a pattern and two weeks is a habit. Whatever you have to do to keep going for two weeks (every other day, three days a week, etc), figure it out because you will ultimately be so much happier and healthier.
Ps skinny does not mean healthy. Every person has a different healthy to obtain. We need to support rather than criticize others. Happy & healthy lives are what we should strive for everyday!
